This is the winning entry (from over 290!) from the design contest at Hatchwise and was designed by a chap called Jerry from the Philippines. This one worked for me as I liked the way in which the K looks like someone is hugging a contented and calm horse. The design is relaxed and modern and I thought that the choice of the silver really complemented the deep blue.
Some of the designs were very creative, especially given that the brief was to build a logo around either the letter ‘K’ or ‘Kariba’ and its interesting to see how the various designs evolve with the input of myself (via comments) and the designer’s own drive to improve on their ideas. All the other entries can be seen here:
Jerry produced many variations on the theme giving me the flexibility to use the logo in different circumstances, whether on the side of the horsebox or on a light background without the blue fill. At the end of the contest, Jerry emailed over the designs in various formats giving me the flexibility to use them as required.
Overall, I’m very happy with the result and would recommend Hatchwise to anybody looking for a logo. I think its a great forum for attracting creative and innovative people who want to help you succeed and the range of designs produced was surprising given, what I thought, was quite a narrow scope.
If I were to do it again, I would spend more time on the brief to make it clearer for the ‘creatives’ what I was after as it took me a day or two before I realised that my brief was creating the wrong impression (due to the template used for the brief). If I was Hatchwise I would encourage the designers to get involved as early as possible as it was rare that I saw a design that I didn’t feel could be tweaked in some way. As it was, there were some great entries submitted with only a few hours to go and it wasn’t possible, in the time remaining, to develop them further.
The designers can also submit a comment with their design but these weren’t visible the first time you see the design. This frequently resulted in comments back to the designer that looked silly when compared with the comment they may have submitted purely because you’re weren’t aware of it.
I’ve now incorporated the logo in the header for one of our websites, Kariba Horsebox Hire and I think it really stands out. Let me know what you think
