I’ve now posted the design brief and the logo contest is now open. This is an interim update
I thought long and hard about what I wanted from the logo and decided that I needed a simple design based either around the word ‘Kariba’ or the letter ‘K’. It needed to be easy to read but also able to convey that the Kariba brand was modern and stylish. I posted the design brief, paid the fee on hatchwise and sat back and waited. The contest lasts for 10 days and the first entry arrived within the hour.
With 3 days to go, I’ve had over 150 entries and the quality of innovation and creativity is impressive. Within a couple of days the designers (or ‘creatives’ as they are known) had quickly worked out what I was looking for and produced many different designs concentrating on several different themes
The advantage for me is that I can eliminate an entry or rate it on a scale of 1 -5 (5 being the highest) and also post comments on a particular design to help the creatives. As a result, it’s great fun to watch a favourite design evolve as different colours and techniques are tried out. The majority of the entries have been based around the word ‘Kariba’ but several in the last 24 hours have started evolving designs around the ‘K’ and very good they are as well.
I’m sure the creatives hate me as I continually ask them to try different things out, but their comments back are always pleasant and they all appear to be eager to please, (perhaps understandable when they want to win!)
As the designs evolve, you find yourself looking back at early entries and wonder why you rated them so highly. You also learn more as you go along so your comments become more and more specific as you begin to realise what works and what doesn’t
I recall seeing a comment from someone on these design contests who stated that they didn’t work and you’d do just as well sticking with one designer. I have to disagree as I don’t believe any one designer could have come up with the range and depth of designs that this contest has generated.
My only problem now is that I need to pick a winner!
